It is 1972 and tens of thousands of Estonians from around the world gather in Toronto
for the first world festival of Estonians to express solidarity, to share in their culture and
history and to protest the continued occupation of their homeland. This first festival
was opened by Mitchell Sharp, then Canadian Secretary of State for External Affairs, an
act that raised the ire of the Soviet Union. The original film depicting this event was
destroyed. 2009 will see the 10th such World Estonian Festival, this time in Germany -
tonight’s re-created print tells the tale of how Estonians came together that first time.

Kas
originaalne film hävitati vastu tulles tungivale protestile? 2009 aastal toimub kümnes
Esto, seekord Saksamaal, kuid täna õhtune taas-monteeritud film jutustab sellest
kuidas eestlased esimest korda kokku tulid.
