Critically acclaimed Jonathan from Australia generated intense discussion in Estonia
when released in 2007, about the ethics of showing daily village life on-screen.
In the film, fireworks mark the opening of the deep-sea port in the island village
of Mustjala. Will the mythological White Ship finally make port and bring happiness?
Did the myth really contemplate that German tourists on the “Lili Marleen”
were the ones to bring happiness into the grim reality of village life? Or, does the
happiness of Jüri, Eti, Leo, Feliks and Toomas lie within themselves?

Mustjalas avatakse ilutulestiku saatel, on tee valgele laevale avatud. Jüri, Eti, Leo,
Feliks ja Toomas on eurooplasteks saanud. Kas saksa turiste kandev “Lili Marleen”
ongi see õnne toov valge laev mida on ammu oodatud?
