The University of Tartu, one of the oldest universities in Northern and Eastern
Europe, celebrated its 375th anniversary in 2007. Founded in 1632 and
becoming the national university of Estonia in 1919, this stronghold of education
has bordered the differing cultures of East and West. Reflecting the six
pillars adorning the main buildings, this well-paced historical overview
explores the meaning behind universitas, professors, gloria,
historia, genius loci and tradition.

Tartu Ülikool on üks Põhja- ja Ida-Euroopa vanemaid ülikoole. See on seisnud
erinevate kultuuride piiril, Ida ja Lääne vahel, see on hariduskants, millest
1919. aastal sai eestlaste rahvuslik ülikool. Käesolev film annab ülevaate
Tartu Ülikooli sünni-ja eluloost, ajaloost ning tänapäevast, toetudes ülikooli
peahoone kuuele sümboolsele sambale: universitas, professors,
gloria, historia, genius loci ja tradition.
